ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born in Haiti, Carl Craig moved to New York with his family at the age of fifteen. He later served honorably in the United States Air Force before earning a Bachelor of Science in Finance and International Business from Florida International University.
Following a successful sixteen-year career in the financial markets, culminating as a Senior Financial Consultant with Merrill Lynch, Carl transitioned into international consulting, where he served as a Senior Consultant to the Prime Minister of Haiti’s Transitional Government. There, he played a significant role in advising on strategic national initiatives focused on decentralization and sustainable regional development. During this time, he traveled extensively throughout Haiti, immersing himself in its people, culture, and landscapes while documenting everyday life through photography. These experiences profoundly shaped his artistic vision and continue to influence his work today.
Although he achieved significant success in business and public service, he ultimately chose to pursue a lifelong calling in the arts. A self-taught artist, photographer, and musician, he devoted himself fully to creative expression, bringing the same discipline, precision, and thoughtful observation that defined his earlier career into his artistic practice.
Carl is internationally recognized for his extraordinary portraiture and his ability to capture the emotional depth, dignity, and quiet strength of his subjects. Deeply inspired by his Haitian heritage, his paintings celebrate the beauty, resilience, and cultural richness of Haiti while conveying universal themes of humanity and nature. Through subtle facial expressions, body language, and masterful use of light, his work invites viewers into intimate moments that transcend language and thought.
His work has been exhibited internationally, including special invitation exhibitions in Mexico and Cayenne, and he was named a semi-finalist in the Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series in both 2015 and 2016. Today, his paintings are held in private and executive collections and continue to resonate with collectors who value technical excellence, emotional authenticity, and compelling narratives.
Beyond the studio, Carl is a devoted family man whose faith, relationships, and commitment to others remain central to his life. He believes that art has the power to inspire, unite, and preserve the stories that shape communities. Through his work and his continued involvement with those around him, he seeks not only to create meaningful works of art, but also to contribute to a lasting cultural legacy.
At the heart of Carl’s work is a belief that hope resides within the human spirit. Through each painting, he seeks to reveal the beauty, grace, resilience, and depth found in the human experience.
